The Patagonia
The Patagonia: This isolated region located in the southern tip of South America has provided all visitors a nice experience. This is a place with lots of relevant features, dramatic landscapes including impressive glaciers, pristine lakes and streams, gorgeous mountains, ancient forests, amazing wildlife, a very rich history and a lot more. The best of it is that no matter how old are you, or how active you are, you’ll love Patagonia.
During these last few years it became a favorite place to visit for travelers coming from many different countries, most of all from North America and Europe, and the top destinations have increased very much their base by building several hotels in different categories, new roads, restaurants, improving all kind of services, meaning that the goal seem to be the tourism business on a long term basis, which is very important.
Without a doubt the favorite destination in Patagonia is El Calafate city which is located beside the Glaciers National Park holding the most impressive piece of ice: the Perito Moreno glacier. This small town has grown a lot in the last seasons and the reason is simple: the number of tourists visiting this place is constantly increasing year after year giving a solid business for those who decided to work in this southern part of the world.
There are other very interesting places in the southern part of the Patagonia, embracing both Argentina and Chile, I’d say that Ushuaia is the runner up, Torres del Paine the 3rd and El Chalten the fourth. Punta Arenas is also relevant since it holds the airport receiving flights from Santiago for travelers visiting Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine National Park.
To travel Patagonia is quite simple, best place to start is Buenos Aires (a bit better than Santiago in terms of flights & transfers combinations), there are several every day flights going to El Calafate and Ushuaia.
In the northern part of the Patagonia Argentina area there are two very important places to visit: Bariloche (Lakes District) from where you can go to Villa la Angostura, San Martin de los Andes and take the International Lakes Crossing trip to Chile (Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas), and Puerto Madryn where you can visit Peninsula Valdes ( southern whales) and Punta Tombo ( for penguins).
Several Patagonia tours combine many of these destinations making it possible to visit your desired places and doing a lot of activities. Taking a tour or arranging your own trip will give you lots of unforgettable memories.
